Our Story
Our Story
D&D Enterprises was founded in 1976 by brothers Ralph and Harold Davis in a small 20′ x 40′ cinder block shop behind Ralph’s house in Greensboro, North Carolina. What began as a modest family venture rooted in craftsmanship and determination quickly grew — first with the addition of a 40′ x 80′ fabrication space and a 15′ x 40′ tool and grinding shop, complete with the luxury of a newly added restroom.
In 1993, D&D purchased its first CNC machining center and entered the marine industry machining propellers, drip feeding the lengthy CNC Code from a computer stationed beside the machine. In 1994, the company expanded into aerospace machining — opening the door to new precision requirements and long-term partnerships. By 1995, D&D acquired Saunders Yacht Company, adding three CNC machines, three skilled employees, and new opportunities to the existing team of eight.
In 1997, D&D acquired Whitaker Metals to bring additional capabilities in-house and moved its growing team of 12 employees and four CNC machines into a 40,000 sq. ft. facility in Level Cross, North Carolina. That same year, Ralph’s daughter Sharon Warden (CPA) joined full-time (now our COO), followed closely by his son Jason Davis in 1999 (now our CEO). Ralph’s grandson, Nick, joined the family business in 2020, continuing the multigenerational legacy.
When did we add NDT
Through the early 2000s, D&D experienced strong growth in both aerospace machining and aerospace assembly, becoming a trusted partner for complex, high-precision components and fully assembled products. Today, after decades of steady growth and continual investment, D&D operates more than 30 pieces of advanced equipment, employs over 50 talented team members, and has expanded to an adjacent property that now houses our 10,000 sq. ft. assembly operation.
From our humble beginnings behind Ralph’s house to a multi-building manufacturing campus in central North Carolina, our journey has been guided by the same values that started it all: craftsmanship, integrity, and a commitment to doing the job right.
